Mammogram Skin Markers
The use of skin markers is considered best practice in breast imaging. They assist in identifying points of interest and aid in technologist-to-radiologist communication. Each marker has a unique shape for identification purposes.
Mole markers help identify raised moles without obscuring or hiding tissue. The open circle center allows the marker to lay flat on the skin by surrounding the mole.
Nipple Markers assist in quickly identifying the nipple, typically when it is not prominent, as a point of reference for proper positioning and measurements. The BB appears bright white without obscuring tissue.
Scar Markers are used to emulate a visible scar and explain local breast architecture distortion.
Palpable Mass Markers highlight a palpable area of concern without hiding calcifications. The triangle shape was chosen because it is internationally recognized as a symbol of warning.
